The Navy's need for a craft to negotiate riverine areas led to the development of the Riverine Utility Craft (RUC). The RUC is supported and propelled by two counter-rotating screws, and can be classified as a “zero draft” craft. The prototype RUC has proved to be highly mobile in shallow water, mud, and marshy terrains and is capable of carrying 2000 lb of cargo or seven personnel.
