Information is presented on development of engine dust testing procedures. These procedures have proved to be a good engine development tool with a high degree of sensitivity. Details of the procedure are given along with information on the abrasive material used. Comparative results are shown in evaluating design parameters. Some of the designs evaluated include oil ring expander and cam followers. It is proven that the oil ring expander design has a significant effect on the overall durability of the engine. A study was made to obtain correlation with laboratory and field results.
