The rapid, efficient handling of baggage and cargo present the airline operator with almost identical problems. In fact, both fit within the same system during the actual transport phases. Significant cost and time savings result when baggage and cargo are consolidated into unit-loads that fit efficiently in the transport vehicles and are handled using modern handling techniques.Boeing has been working with airlines and equipment manufacturers to develop airplane systems and practical handling methods that interface with existing or modified ground equipment to service standard body fleets throughout the world's airlines. This paper reports the status of these efforts and preliminary data on the benefits achievable with adoption of these systems.
