A new traction drive has been developed which has the power density required for use in both on- and off-highway vehicles. It avoids problems faced by other types of traction drives such as high contact stresses and roller positioning. The range extends from 0 to 1:1. Cost and efficiency are competitive with other automatic and manual transmissions.
