The ESARAD radiative analysis program has been in use in the European thermal analysis community for approximately two years. The first part of this paper presents an assessment of ESARAD from a user's viewpoint. The second part presents work related to ESARAD performed in the Thermal Control and Life Support Division of ESTEC. In particular, work relating to two topics is presented: 1) ESARAD programming - a set of add-on software routines developed to complement ESARAD's basic capabilities is presented. 2) ESARAD applications - two thermal analysis problems from the ENVISAT - 1 and XMM spacecraft are presented. The last part of the paper is a brief description of the status of accuracy control in ESARAD.
