The historically independent and concurrent development of holographic theory and laser technology have merged in the scientific and industrial disciplines to significantly impact alternatives to Non destructive Testing technology. This paper illustrates how optical testing augments component testing during any phase of the design/development process from concept to validation. An overview of the holographic theory and test methodology is presented as well as the facility and equipment used for the project applications described. The relationships between optical, analog and digital data acquisition and processing are highlighted as well as recommendations and future optical NDT.
