This paper describes the operation of a fully automated test facility at a new diesel engine manufacturing plant. This computerization permits uniform testing while avoiding discrepancies in test data associated with operator discretion. All test procedures must be completed and all steps must be executed sequentially.Uniform testing ensures that test conditions are the same from one engine to the next and that consistently accurate readings are taken at the correct time.Part I describes the facility. Part II describes the system configuration. Part III follows an engine through several phases of a normal test cycle.
