This paper discusses the history and detail functions of the Scout Reliability Program and describes the changes made to improve the program. The Scout vehicle is designed to launch medium size payloads into orbital, reentry and probe missions.NASA Langley Research Center (LRC) and Missiles and Space Division - Texas (MSD-T) developed a reliability program to meet the intent of NASA Reliability Publication UPC 250-1 and applied this program to the Scout vehicle. This revised program, working in concert with a “recertification” program, has provided excellent results.Subsequently, Scout has developed into a highly reliable, efficient, and versatile launch system.
