The implication of the terminology “Statistical Process Control” is that process variables are statistically measured and that they are controlled using that data. The control of these variables should control the process. The flaw in only using process variables lies in selecting the right ones and understanding variable interactions. The use of process output variables corrects this shortcoming. The selection and use of process output variables is illustrated for stamping line process control.
