A National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) sponsored program is underway to establish an Environmental Control and Life Support System (ECLSS) technology research and development plan to ensure the cost-effective ECLSS technology will be available when advanced manned space missions are being defined and preliminary designs must be established. Preliminary results of this program are presented and organized according to: scope of the defined ECLSS, review of the ECLSS on prior missions, status of the ECLSS, definition of projected advanced manned missions, ECLSS requirements for advanced space missions, unique mission drivers and future work of the program.
