Unlike liquid cooling, air cooling is characterized in that its complete cooling system is integrated in the engine. Special cooling media are not required. For military applications, the main requirement is:The military mission envisaged must be carried through without any potential breakdown involved. This implies a low degree of vulnerability and a high degree of survivability. With the air-cooling system, this can be realized more reliably, because it is less sensitive to shell fire and to the influence or impact of splinters; repairability is easier and logistics are not so much a problem.Deutz, as a manufacturer of air-cooled diesel engines in the power range of 3-386 kW, offers not only standard production engines for military applications, but also meets a quite specific, military requirement with its special multifuel combustion system.
