THIS PAPER describes the application of computer analysis to an engine development program in one firm. Such cycle analysis can lead to specific recommendations in the matching of turbochargers to V-8 diesel engines and the designing of intake and exhaust manifolds. The author discusses the correlation of the calculated data and the test results. He believes that clearer insights into engine test results and development problems are obtained when the effects of operating and design changes are studied analytically as well as experimentally. The result can be a saving of development time and a reduction in costly experimentation, he believes.THIS PAPER describes the application of computer analysis to an engine development program in one firm.
