This SAE Recommended Practice describes a marking system to distinguish long-stroke from standard stroke for service, parking, and combination air-brake actuators, roto-chambers, and components. Said actuators are used for applying cam and disc-type foundation brakes by slack adjuster means. SAE must make this change in SAE J1817 before FMCSA will initiate action to correct CFR Part 393.47, which will permit CVSA to revise the OOS roadside inspection regulations. Consistency with the new stroke marking standard in J2899 will be required.
