The morphological properties of SMC, BMC and cast polyester sheets (CPS) have been investigated with the intent of characterizing the major components affecting properties. Scanning electron microscopy shows that SMC, BMC and CPS have a complex microstructure that are strongly dependent on the formulation, and the type, size, shape and distribution of additives. Dynamic mechanical data was obtained by employing a Rheometrics Dynamic Spectrometer. Polarized light microscopy techniques were also utilized to examine the structure of the carbon fibers and crystalline polymers.
