It was evaluated the effect that the modification of some properties of colombian diesel fuel, as Final Boiling Point (FBP), density and sulfur content, have on the Particulate Matter (PM) emissions. For the evaluation, it were used four diesel engines of different technologies and working hours. Different alternatives for modifying the properties of colombian comercial diesel fuel were studied, from the point of view of fuel treatment and incorporation or segregación of some streams in the Barrancabermeja's Refinery diesel fuel pool. The measurements of PM were carried out using a Constant Volume Sampler (CVS) of partial flow (AVL-SPC472), following the european steady state cycle of 13 steps and the european directive ECE-R49. The tests were carried out in the Colombian Petroleum Institute test cell in Bucaramanga, Colombia. General tendencies showed reductions up to 25% in PM emissions when reducing the FBP and sulfur content, but the reducción levels vary from one engine to the others depending on its technology and working time. As a base line was used the commercial diesel fuel emissions level for each engine and as a reference, the results were compared with european standarts EURO I y II, defined for the level of emissions of heavy duty engines.
