In order to achieve higher levels of product quality and reliability in an affordable manner a practical path must be followed. This approach or path begins with developing an appreciation of what the “drivers” for quality and reliability are and how they should be integrated with the product development cycle. The paper traces the product development cycle through eight steps and addresses various quality/reliability issues in each step. The result: quality/reliability is designed in and not added on.
