This paper describes the organization and function of product planning activities at the Ford Motor Co. and relates them to engineering activities in various departments. The review is presented in three parts: the need for product planning, what comprises it, and the scope of its activity. The objective of the author is to demonstrate how coordination of nonengineering and engineering functions can affect a business-oriented operation of market projection and product development.
