The merger of Siemens Automotive and VDO represents nearly a decade of combined Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) simulation experience in the field of automotive electronic products. SiemensVDO Automotive has applied this extensive field experience to the development of simulation tools that support EMC design and testing. EMC behavior for complex systems is hardly predictable without the use of simulation tool techniques for real-world testing. From a process standpoint, key data that is generated by EMC simulation tools helps to reduce trial & error design iterations of a product, as well as expedite its time to market. EMC simulation can serve as a risk management tool with greater potential to affect cost savings by minimizing the number of design iterations.Various virtual tools were created in the simulation tool set in order to model certain characteristics of the physical elements, such as the stripline antenna. Four other factors needed for proper EMC simulation include device models such as drivers, PCBs (printed circuit board), mechanical housings and wiring harness. The stripline antenna completes the simulation process in order to do predictive modeling. This paper will provide examples revealing the comparison of computer simulated environment and real tested environment.
