The purpose of this paper is to outline some of the applications of preimpregnated Kevlar 49 aramid fiber to replace metal and fiberglass composite assemblies for a weight reduction in the empennage. This low density-high tensile strength and modulus material was used to reduce the weight of 250 square feet of surface area by 71 pounds.
