This paper examines the results of the U.S. meteorological satellite program to date, specifically the Tiros I, II, and III satellites. The various subject areas covered are: orbital configuration and photographic coverage, utilization of data obtained (operational and research), and data processing, including the need for advanced automated ground data processing and dissemination to exploit fully the potential of satellite meteorology.
