Micron Corporation is under contract with U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) to develop the prototype of a smart microprocessor based battery analysis and control system for automotive SLI batteries. The system is an integral part of the battery case. It communicates wireless with the vehicle computer for battery status indication, with the alternator for gas controlled pulsed charging and with maintenance personnel to issue maintenance instructions. The system is designed to maintain the original dimensions of a conventional battery and requires no additional wiring from the battery to the vehicle.
