Software factories [1] are finding increasing application in aerospace and a few organizations have demonstrated significant increases in both productivity and quality using the process. Reuse of software modules is the most significant contributor to achieving these increases and extensive automation and process engineering have been important enablers of reuse. Ongoing research has examined the software factory process and documented the results using surveys, interviews and a case study.
