The active thermal control system on the Wide Field Camera on ROSAT was designed to provide an acceptable operating temperature for the optics as well as having the capability for controlling the temperature gradients of the camera to maximise its optical capability. This paper contains a description of the thermal design and reports on the in-orbit performance of the control sytem since the launch of ROSAT in mid-1990.
