The US Department of Transportation (USDOT) has released two new soft ware tools to support testing and procurement of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Center-to-Field (C2F) and Center-to-Center (C2C) standards-based systems. These tools, the Test Procedure Generator (TPG) and the Center-to- Center Reference Implementation (C2C RI), are intended to fill existing gaps in ITS standards consistency, interoperability, conformance, and development of test documents. USDOT developed these tools in response to existing gaps as identified through surveys of public and private entities that implement ITS standards. Before now, these users had no other choice but to use mostly proprietary solutions provided by private vendors, which do not support off the shelf interoperability. USDOT's overall goal is to encourage widespread, interoperable use of ITS technologies, especially among state and local agencies. The TPG and the C2C RI are tools that are currently available for C2F and C2C implementations. They are designed to support rigorously developed standards already approved by the SDOs.
