To receive an award when none is expected is both a surprise and an honor. This becomes even more significant when one is culminating his professional career and is recognized by his peers in such a manner as to be viewed worthy of the Burton W. Marsh Award. Burton W. Marsh was "Mr. ITE," and in that spirit the author have always viewed ITE as the cornerstone for my career. As he transition into retirement and reflect upon his career, he realize that ITE has also been his cornerstone for professional growth and success. Being a people-oriented individual who has always gained much satisfaction in seeing the end product of whatever he have worked on, he realized in 1968 as a graduating civil engineer that transportation engineering would provide him with the opportunity to work directly with the people that he and his work would affect.
