Following up from the April 2016 ITE Journal article, All Roads Lead to Zero: Realizing Vision Zero, ITE is spotlighting North American cities that have recently adopted Vision Zero. Noting that the movement is still in its infancy in the US, Vision Zero Network Executive Director Leah Shahum recently remarked that Vision Zero does not have a one-size-fits-all implementation strategy for cities to follow. Sharing the work of early adopters such as New York City NY, provides a look at promising strategies that other cities might learn from and adapt to their needs. The NYC Vision Zero Action Plan is the City~ foundation for ending traffic deaths and injuries on its streets. According to the plan, the City of New York must no longer regard traffic crashes as mere accidents but rather as preventable incidents that can be systematically addressed. No level of fatality on City streets is inevitable or acceptable.
