In an interview, Phil Caruso, ITE associate executive director for technical programs, talked about his career. Caruso said that his ability to work with community and political groups in addressing local transportation issues provided him with a very high level of personal satisfaction and high sense of professional achievement in serving the general public. His interest in transportation then evolved into him pursuing a master's degree in transportation engineering and serving as the transportation planning director for the Boston Transportation department, followed by experience in the consultant arena, and ultimately in his current position with ITE where he's had some of the most satisfying opportunities to contribute to the advancement of their profession.
