The second part of a series on "From Metro and Light Rail to Trains and Trams: Exploring Sydeny, Australia's Expansive Public Transit Initiatives" is presented. In September 2015 ITE International President John J. Kennedy and Executive Director Thomas W. Brahms led a group of ITE delegates from the US and Canada on a study tour to Australia and New Zealand. In addition to connecting with local ITE Australia/New Zealand members, the delegates experienced a series of onsite tours and presentations from a variety of government agencies and consultants, learning about major transportation initiatives underway in both countries that will benefit mobility, safety, and economic growth. For Sydney Metro Northwest, The NSW Government awarded the $3.7 billion Operations, Trains, and Systems contract to the Northwest Rapid Transit consortium in September 2014. This contract is being delivered through a public private partnership, the largest ever awarded in NSW.
