A case on ethics is presented. Anna is preparing for her final exam in a transportation economics course. In prior years, the professor gave the students the prior year's exam to use as they studied. This year, the professor decided not to do so. Anna's friend John took the course the previous year and has offered Anna the practice exam and final exam from his course to use as she prepares for her final exam. Anna feels there might be some form of ethical misbehavior if she used the exams provided by John to study for the exam; however, it is not clear. In the event that John's professor provided consent for John to pass the exams onto other students, then it is okay for John to give the exams to Anna and for Anna to accept and use the exams. While it would be good for Anna to make her professor aware of the presence of the exam materials, Anna is not obligated to do so.
