An obituary for AIAA fellow, Richard Taylor, who died on Oct 4, 2015, is presented. Taylor was best known for his work on extended-range twin-engine operational performance standards. After receiving a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University, he joined Boeing in 1946 after serving in World War II as a US Army artillery spotter pilot. He worked as a flight-test engineer in many positions, among them as test pilot on the B-47 Stratojet and the KB-29 aerial tanker.
