An obituary for former AIAA fellow and university professor Geoffrey Lilley, who died on Sep 20, 2015 at age 95, is presented. Lilley was one of the leaders in the field of research that became known as aeroacoustics and received the 1984 AIAA Aeroacoustics Award for major contributions to aeracoustics research, including sonic boom and jet noise, and particularly for his theory of the generation and radiation of sound by turbulence and the practical suppression of jet noise.
