An obituary for former executive director Milton W. Rosen, who died on Dec 30, 2014 at the age of 99, is presented. Joining the staff of the Naval Research Laboratory, he teamed with nuclear physicist Ernst H. Krause in 1945 to establish the lab's first rocket development program. The team designed and developed the multistage Viking rockets, which were launched between 1949 and 1955.
