In this study, thermo-elastic differential equations for the displacement potential function are solved to obtain the functional axial deflections for the segments between the bulkheads of a pipe-in-pipe system. The functional axial deflections, the axial displacements from the bulkhead forces and the axial strain induced by the seabed friction are used to calculate the shear force exerted on each bulkhead of the pipe-in-pipe system via an iterative approach. Both pipe-in-pipe systems with equally and unequally spaced bulkheads are discussed.
