Pandrol VIPA-SP track fastening system for the Selby Canal Bridge, England - In June 2007, Network Rail undertook a large-scale operation to lift a new steel railway bridge into place over the Selby Canal, England, as the old bridge was found to be suffering from corrosion and old age. There were problems with the brick abutments and the track was mounted on longitudinal timber beams, which were causing gauge problems. This article looks at the construction of the new bridge, whereby Pandrol VIPA-SP track fastenings were fixed directly to the steel bridge structure, thus obviating the need for longitudinal timber beams.
