Under an SBIR (Small Business Innovative Research) contract with Goddard Space Flight Center, Focused Research, Inc. and New Focus, Inc., developed a single mode tunable diode laser from 1.9 to 4.0 microns. As an offshoot from this work, they were able to introduce a 2.0 micron diode laser into their commercial product line. These lasers are useful in trace gas detection, environmental monitoring, seeding of lidar systems, and medical diagnostic experiments.
