In this paper, the authors provide their personal view of how flight mechanics is taught at universities. Their viewpoint is taken from a government and industry research and development bias, but it is tempered by their experience at teaching the subject at both an undergraduate and graduate level. First, the organizations' respective needs and their expectations of graduating students am presented both in general and with specific examples From this disposition, the question "is there a problem or not in present teaching methods or subject coverage?" is then considered. A review of previous positions on the topic is also covered. The paper concludes with suggested improvements based on the authors' experience.
