With the advent of high-supersonic transport aircraft, supersonic jet noise becomes a major technological problem and there is a strong need for a reliable prediction approach. Our present interest is the mixing noise component induced by the turbulent flow itself. The physics of shock-associated noise is very different and must be treated in another context.
