Vugraphs are presented on the effect of cruise Mach number on the maximum takeoff weight of the High Speed Commercial Transport (HSCT). Predictions are made of the service life of the aircraft, and the aging effects of various candidate materials are examined. The objective of the study is to develop and evaluate low cost airplane designs by examining alternate structural, material, and manufacturing concepts, for the purpose of advising material suppliers and NASA on desired materials, product forms, and processing techniques.
