Technical paper discusses use of rotating-unbalanced-mass (RUM) actuators to scan scientific instruments in circular patterns centered on target points. Proposes reconfiguration of existing experimental raster- and line-scanning RUM apparatus to enable experiments on circular scanning. Presents formulas for calculating effects of RUM mounted on ends of gimballed beam. Calculations for control gains of RUM and gimbal servos also presented.
