Report discusses application of mathematical crack-closure model to study growth of cracks under various load histories. Model based on crack-tip-plasticity concept, modified to leave plastically deformed material in wake of advancing crack tip. Effect of thickness of material on plasticity accounted for by using "constraint" factor in connection with tensile yielding at crack tip.
