Diamines polymerized with dianhydrides or diacyl halides to produce fire-resistant polymers. Properties of polymers useful as matrices in laminated composite-material aircraft structural components that resist fire and exhibit desirable mechanical properties as high tensile strength. Diamines used as encapsulating or potting compounds when reacted with epoxy resins. Free phosphonic acids, byproducts of synthesis of diamines used as complexing agents to extract metals from aqueous solutions or as corrosion inhibitors for metals.
