In innovative telemetry scheme, time between pulses of light transmitted along optical fiber represents measured quantity. In period modulator, time varied by varying control-input voltage, which serves as critical voltage of relaxation oscillator. Demodulator is simple state estimator, no discriminator or phase-locked loop needed. Applicable to radio or wire transmission. Pulses proportional to temperature, pressure, voltage, or other variable monitored remotely.
