An overview is presented of a workshop held on May 14-15, 1987. Presentations included overviews of knowledge-based system (KBS) fundamentals, introductions to verification and validation (V&V) methods currently being used, and theoretical V&V work. The findings of three working groups are considered, involving: (1) KBS V&V feasibility within current NASA software constraints, (2) V&V methods suited to KBS constraints, and future KBS V&V research goals.
