A launch vehicle aeroelastic stability method is presented in order to treat transonic flight problems that are characteristic of 'hammerhead' payload geometries. Navier-Stokes formulation-based CFD techniques are used to simulate the unsteady aerodynamic flowfields, and time-domain aeroelastic analyses are performed by coupling this flow solver with a modal representation of the vehicle's structural-dynamic characteristics. Numerical applications encompass the study of an Atlas-Able IV configuration in various flight conditions; good qualitative agreement with observations is obtained.
