According to calculations, efficiency of offset Cassegrain reflector antenna increased by about 8 percent by extending edge of subreflector outward about 1 wavelength beyond optical limit. Even though main reflector partially shadowed by subreflector, partial aperture blockage more than offset by consequent reduction of diffraction on subreflector. Similar conclusions apply to symmetric Cassegrain antennas.
