Starprobe is an advanced-technology mission that is being planned for the purpose of making a very close approach to the sun; perhaps as near as four solar radii. The scientific experiments will accurately measure the solar quadrupole moment, conduct relativity experiments, measure the fields and particles environment, and image solar features at high resolution. An effective heat shield is required, and the communications system must be capable of returning data while the spacecraft is immersed in the noisy solar environment. The spacecraft's earth-inherited angular momentum will be removed for the drop into the sun by means of a close flyby of Jupiter.
