LANDSAT 4 was launched on July 22, 1982. This is the first satellite to carry the high resolution, high data rate Thematic Mapper (TM). An overview of the LANDSAT 4 Program is presented in terms of the program plan, accomplishments and future events, the transition of operational responsibility to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) management and the challenges remaining to both NASA personnel and LANDSAT 4 Investigations Program participants.
