The objectives of the Stereosat mission are to obtain worldwide cloud-free stereo coverage at two base-height ratios and with a ground IFOV of 15 m; and to obtain stereo data in digital form that can be merged with monoscopic digital terrain models derived directly from the image data stream. This paper reviews Stereosat, with consideration given to the geological mapping requirements, digital data bases, the mission concept, system lifetime, instrument parameters, spacecraft parameters, and geometric accuracy.
