This paper introduces the new concept of 'Critical mass' for liquid rocket propellants and verifies its existence. Internal mechanisms inherent in the mixing processes of fuel and oxidizer produce ignition conditions and centers which limit the quantities which can be brought together without explosion, or limit the size of the explosion which can be produced, regardless of the total propellant quantities present.
