The development, characteristics, and applications of nonmetallic materials used for spacecraft structures are discussed. The effects of extremes in environment as a factor in material selection are considered. Material design parameters are especially complex because of the requirements imposed for additional fire safety and resistance to the free space and lunar surface environment.
